Lot Description
1864 Pattern Two-Cent Piece. Judd-371, Pollock-440. Rarity-6-. Copper-Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-63 (NGC). Struck from the same dies that the Mint used to produce regular issue 1864 Large Motto two-cent pieces. Lovely golden-tan surfaces with tinges of pale pink evident as the coin rotates under a light. Modestly, yet appreciably reflective in the fields, both sides are fully struck throughout with only a few light carbon flecks precluding an even higher grade. One of a dozen or more examples of this off-metal striking known, per the website uspatterns.com. Provenance: From the Marc Kravit Collection. PCGS# 60541. NGC ID: 26VJ.
