Lot Description

1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 54-k, W-5295. Rarity-3. Serpent Head. VF-30 Planchet Flaws. 129.63 grains. Smooth golden-tan surfaces and bold design motifs apparent where not affected by the heavy, natural planchet flaws on both sides -- please refer to the photos to gauge their magnitude. Three reasonably heavy and deep old toned-over scratches run horizontally across the horse's portrait, no other circulation marks present, reverse die misaligned, central point of shield points to 2 o'clock. Marked both naturally and by circulation, but still an intriguing and not entirely unattractive New Jersey copper. PCGS# 5178.
