Lot Description
1867-S Liberty Half Eagle. AU-53 (NGC). This frosty specimen is a deep honey-gold coin with lively retained luster and attractive peach iridescence throughout. Of the 29,000 examples of the date struck, the vast majority saw heavy use in commerce with the end result today amounting to a large proportion of VF and EF survivors. Indeed, AU is as fine as you can expect for this San Francisco Mint rarity -- neither NGC nor PCGS has certified a Mint State example of the date. An unsung rarity to many, though specialists in the series know just how difficult it is to locate an attractive and essentially problem-free example of the date. Have at it, bidders, for who knows when the next Choice AU 1867-S half eagle will come up for bids.
