- 1873-CC Liberty Half Eagle. EF-45 (PCGS). The mintage for the year 1873 halted after 7,416 pieces were struck at the Carson City Mint -- and from this mintage there are fewer than 100 known today across the grading spectrum. This is one of the better examples known, surpassed by a handful but much finer than the majority seen. The surfaces are attractive with the usual light orange-gold color throughout. While collecting the Liberty half eagles by date and mint is a formidable challenge, many collectors focus on a display of coins from a certain branch mint. These handsome Carson City half eagles would make a challenging yet achievable collection given time and effort, and the offered half eagle would fit nicely into such a set.
