Lot Description

This is an absolutely perfect example of the first and only year fractional issue 24k 1/4 oz Gold Buffalo. This beloved James Earle Fraser 5c design was in use from 1913 until 1938 and it does look posh in gold. The uncirculated burnished Specimen strike surfaces are lovely, smooth, satiny and literally flawless in every way. PCGS 940, NGC 1526. From a mintage of 9,949, the SP70's make occasional auction appearances with an average price realized of $1279 and price guide value of $1500.
