Lot Description

A single pair of dies struck all 1838 quarter-eagles. The eagle's wings have surrendered about half of their sharpness to circulation (and perhaps an incomplete strike), while the obverse has better details. A trifle pale for gold of this vintage, but generally pleasing overall.
