Lot Description
Breen Die State I. Generally olive-brown in color, but with appreciable copper-rose patina intermingled on both sides. There are a few minor marks on Liberty's portrait, including two on the head, but the overall appearance is pleasingly smooth for a well circulated Liberty Cap cent. The obverse is well centered and boldly defined apart from the lack of denticulation along the lower border. The reverse impressive is misaligned to 1 o'clock with broad denticulation and sharp detail at lower left, but the letters ES OF are faint due to a lack of protective denticulation beyond. A rare Sheldon number, the 2000 Breen large cent encyclopedia estimates a mintage of only 2,000 to 3,000 from these dies. This one is an EAC VG8 that is not too far outside of Condition Census.
