- 1652 Massachusetts Bay Colony Oak Tree Sixpence. Noe-16, Salmon 1-A, W-360. Rarity-5. IN on Reverse. EF-45 (PCGS). 33.95 grains. A beautiful example of the type and likely Condition Census for the variety, with golden luster in protected areas, otherwise a pearlescent light silver gray. Centered and struck much like the Ford:44 coin, similarly detailed to that example, which your cataloger graded AU at the time. It realized $40,250. That coin has received some acclaim as potential finest known, but this one is hot on its heels. The NN60 coin appears a bit more detailed and is also a top echelon piece. This coin has few defects, just a little natural notch in the rim at V of MASATHVSETS and some nearly invisible hairlines detected under a good glass. The eye appeal is as choice as the surface quality, and the sharpness and centering is preferable to the Hain coins and other oft-cited specimens. A first-rate survivor of this very scarce issue.<br />
