Lot Description

1809 Classic Head Cent. S-280, the only known dies. Rarity-2. VF-25 (PCGS). A lovely example of this conditionally challenging type, warmly toned gray-brown and deep rose surfaces possess superior eye appeal for the assigned grade. Several small handling marks are scattered about, and a shallow planchet flaw is evident in the reverse field above the letter T in CENT. The in hand appearance is, however, quite smooth for a Classic Head cent that saw considerable circulation. All devices are boldly defined. Noyes Die State B. PCGS# 1546.
