- This glorious Mint State 1795 Flowing Hair dollar is a truly wonderful example of this first silver dollar type struck by the Philadelphia mint in the early days of the federal republic. George Washington was still President when this remarkable coin came off the dies, and has been lovingly cared for over the years, escaping the ravages of time, circulation, and careless handling. Truly wicked cool! First, the technical quality is all there. This is not a glorified AU58 coin that was "pushed" into a Mint State holder. Superb surfaces for the grade, devoid of lines, ticks or scuffs of any kind. Nicely struck on a quality planchet, there are no mint made adjustment marks found anywhere either and there is just the slightest bluntness of strike on the eagle's breast feathers. A strong underlying luster glows under a wonderful and totally original mix of golden-russet, pale pewter, powder blue, and soft lilac accents. A few darker toning dots are seen as well, aiding as pedigree markers. A thoroughly delightful early dollar in true Mint State grade. PCGS 5, NGC 10, CAC 1. This coin last sold in our Regency Auction IV back in July 2013 for $92,000, well above the current published levels, and we believe this coin will bring a bid over the PCGS and CAC CPG values. Of course the number of CAC-approved Mint State Flowing Hair dollars is miniscule and RARELY appear in auction, and they bring very strong premiums over their non-CAC counterparts. Magnificent for your type or early dollar date set, we know there will be a fierce competition to take this one home. Good luck. Cert. Number 27400942 PCGS # 39977
