- 1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-103a. Rarity-3. Large 8. MS-62 (PCGS).
Deep original toning is enlivened by full frosty mint luster creating a crisp, handsome appearance. There is a pull-away toning effect on some of the stars and reverse letters revealing flashes of bright silvery luster, attesting to the well preserved state of the surfaces. A late state of this die pair with lots of interesting clash marks and die cracks to study. Despite the die deterioration, the strike is boldly rendered and the overall appearance quite impressive. An appealing and scarce Mint State example, bested by just a single MS-64 example in the PCGS Population Report for Overton-103a.
Provenance: From the Iron Eagle Collection.
PCGS# 39424. NGC ID: 24EU.
