Lot Description
1904 Liberty Double Eagle. AG-3 (PCGS). 1907-S Liberty Double Eagle. MS-63 (PCGS). Here is a true condition rarity--not only is this piece the lowest graded 1904 double eagle, the next coin in the Population Report is a distant EF-45. The wear is smooth and substantial, but it is important to note that the obverse has a full rim with the stars, date and of course the central device of Liberty fully outlined. The reverse wear is more severe, and on this side of the coin the rim has failed to protect the lettering, much of which is worn smooth. The central device of the eagle is virtually intact, and easily identifiable. No deep marks or gouges are present, and clearly a pocket piece that would have required at least twenty years of carrying to achieve this level of smooth and natural wear.
