Lot Description
1723 Rosa Americana Penny. Martin 2.6-Eb.2, W-1278. Rarity-4. MS-63 (PCGS). 110.2 grains. The deep golden-brown surfaces of this Choice Uncirculated Rosa Americana penny exhibit a lively array of bright gold in the effigy's hair and among the devices. The surfaces are fairly hard for the type, and soft underlying luster adds greatly to the overall charm of the coin. The devices are crisp and well-presented with no marks of any measure picked up by the unaided eye. One of a handful of penny varieties within the series with a double centering dot in the effigy's hair. The present beauty is among the four finest examples of the issue seen thus far by PCGS, and well it should be. Choice and appealing and absolutely worthy of serious bidding competition.
