Lot Description
1886 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. MS-64 (PCGS). Gorgeous orange-rose surfaces are sharply struck with bountiful mint luster. Struck during a decade of low mintage quarter eagle production, the 1886 was produced to the extent of just 4,000 coins in circulation strike format. There was clearly little need for this denomination in commercial channels at the time, its larger brethren (half eagle, eagle, double eagle) deemed more useful for both domestic use and international trade. This is a significant condition rarity to represent one in a long lineup of underrated quarter eagles from the later years of the 19th century. PCGS Population: 6; 3 finer in this category (MS-67 finest). PCGS# 7838. NGC ID: 25LA. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
