Lot Description: This is a very pleasing XF grade S-65. Because it is a Rarity-1 die marriage, this is a very popular collector oriented coin for type purposes. This attractive example has a wonderful milk-chocolate brown patina on both sides. Good, hard surfaces show no environmental or other planchet roughness. There are a couple of tiny ticks on the rim and a small line in the well defined hair details. The obverse die was slightly misaligned toward 12:00-2:00 leaving no milling on the periphery. There is a touch of verdigris at 3:00, noted for accuracy, but has no impact on the eye appeal. A very impressive example that will delight any collector. PCGS 96, NGC 36. The most recent non-CAC PCGS example to sell in auction brought $4,560 in May 2022 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $5,500.
