A generally antique copper example with intermingled deep rose highlights that are best appreciated when the coin is viewed with the aid of direct lighting. The surfaces are impressively smooth with no mentionable blemishes apart from a shallow edge bruise at 2:30 on the obverse and a minor internal flan flaw (as made) within the lower left quadrant of the shield on the reverse. With a well centered impression and remaining detail uncommonly bold in a mid-grade survivor of this type, we suspect that this Elephant token will have no difficulty finding its way into a collection of American colonial era coinage.
