1823/2 Capped Bust Dime. JR-1. Rarity-3. Small Es. MS-64 (NGC). A conditionally challenging die marriage that is typically offered well worn, the present near-Gem numbers among the finest known. Strong satin luster blankets both sides, the surfaces further adorned with mottled silver-gray, pale-blue and golden-russet iridescence. The eagle's head and neck on the reverse are a bit softly defined, but otherwise we note a bold-to-sharp strike. Although three die marriages are known for this issue that feature two different obverses, all 1823 Capped Bust Dimes are examples of an 1823/2 overdate.
