- Lot Description
- Pleasing dove gray surfaces reveal a hint of blended pale pink and powder blue iridescence as the coin rotates under a light. Boldly defined for a lightly circulated 1840s Liberty Seated dime, and with no blemishes that are sizeable enough to distract the unaided eye. With just 31,300 pieces produced, the 1846 has the lowest mintage among circulation strike Liberty Seated dimes of the Stars Obverse design. Survivors are even rarer than those of the fabled "Little Orphan Annie" 1844 dime, particularly in the finer circulated and Mint State grades. Gerry Fortin (<em>seateddimevarieties.com</em>) assigns EF and AU examples of the 1846 a Rarity-5+ rating, as opposed to the Rarity-5 rating he assigns the 1844 in the same grades.
