Losbeschreibung
Tompkins Die Stage 1/3. A superior example for the 1805 Overton-102 dies, a coin possessed of beauty and character. Deep rose-gray with intense lilac, peach, and electric blue iridescence at the borders. Devoid of marks of consequence with a pleasing appearance overall.
The 1805/4 O-102 variety recycles an unused 1804-dated die, giving life to the otherwise non-existent 1804 issue. This is the second and final use of this obverse die following its employment in the O-101 marriage. Interestingly, researcher Steve Tompkins notes that the ANS now has possession of this die.
This specimen is among the finest survivors from these dies, distinctly ranking among the top four or five certified examples known. While unranked by Stephen J. Herrman in his Autumn 2025 listing, it would be tied for CC#2 behind a pair of AU-58 examples based on its current grade of AU-55 from NGC.
