- 1857 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-101. Rarity-6. Proof-65 Cameo (PCGS). A bright and lustrous Gem with frosted design elements and richly mirrored fields. A lively sheen of bright champagne and pale blue iridescence engages both sides. Reverse die used in 1856. The proof mintage for the date is unknown -- the Mint did not keep track of proof quantities struck until 1859 -- but no doubt along the lines of several dozen pieces. The PCGS Population Report suggest that just 30 to 50 pieces can be accounted for today. The present Gem proof, off the market for nearly six decades, is a pleasure to behold, and bidding activity will no doubt be strong for this ""fresh"" example.
