- This gorgeous Superb Gem retains nearly complete deep orange mint color, the surfaces further enhanced by outstanding vivid toning in mottled salmon-pink, rose red and antique gold. Of the 51,500 Proof cents struck in 1942, only 32,600 were delivered to the cashier at the Philadelphia Mint for public sale. This is the final Proof issue in the Lincoln series prior to 1950, and while upward of 12,000 specimens have survived, the coin offered here is a beautiful condition rarity that is unsurpassed in the PCGS Red and Brown category.
