Lot Description
1786 Vermont Copper. RR-9, Bressett 7-F, W-2040. Rarity-4. Baby Head. VG-8. 121.76 grains. Deep chestnut-brown surfaces verging on chocolate-brown with visually noted uniform porosity throughout. A pronounced planchet cutter lip surrounds better than half the circumference, running from 5 to 11 o'clock on the obverse where it is a high fin, and from much the same position on the reverse rim where it presents a sunken rim effect. Reverse die aligned at 270 degrees, Liberty's head points to 3 o'clock rather than 12 o'clock. Obverse off-center to the right, the rim there through VERMON, rough throughout, natural planchet fissure at the effigy's chin, reverse rough, weak at E ET, rim through LIB and bottoms of date numerals, numerous planchet rifts across Liberty and globe. Surfaces typical for the variety and not nearly so fine as the VF Baby Head from the Freidus Collection offered above. PCGS# 548. Provenance: From the Dan Freidus Collection. Acquired from Ron Guth on November 10, 2001. Paper envelope with attribution and pedigree notes included.
