Lot Description
1839 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Drapery. WB-4. Rarity-4. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC. With vivid cobalt blue, antique gold and pinkish-rose undertones to dominant patina in even steel-olive. Softness of strike over the lower portion of the eagle on the reverse is not uncommon for the issue, and otherwise we note sharp AU detail throughout. As the only Liberty Seated half dollar issue designed without extra drapery at Liberty's left elbow, this variety of the first year 1839 is avidly sought by type collectors as well as series specialists. With coveted CAC approval, the present example is sure to perform especially well at auction. Provenance: From the BASH Collection. CAC Population: 17 in all AU grades.
