Lot Description

Manley Die State 1.0. Deep steely olive-copper patina dominates on both sides, although there are also areas of lighter sandy orange-brown color scattered about. Well defined overall with most major design elements remaining bold in the absence of all but light wear. Minor marks are minimal in number, consistent with the grade, and of no concern during in-hand appreciation. Once thought to be a rarity, the 1804 Cohen-11 has proved to be a fairly common die marriage of this issue. It is the only one that corresponds to the Plain 4, Stems to Wreath <em>Guide Book</em> variety, however, and the fact that it is unknown in Mint State also explains the unusually strong collector pressure that this Cohen number is under. A bold and handsome EF such as this PCGS-certified example from the Widmer Family Collection is always in demand.
