Lot Description
1864 Pattern Seated Liberty Quarter. Judd-384, Pollock-452. Rarity-7-. Proof-64 (PCGS). The obverse design is the same the Mint used to strike regular issue 1864 Seated Liberty quarters. The reverse design is different from the regular issue with a spread wing eagle clutching an olive branch in its right talon and three arrows in its left. There is a shield superimposed on the eagle's breast. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is above and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.
Dusted with light, even, golden-gray iridescence, both sides readily reveal a vibrant, overall brilliant mint finish as the surfaces dip into a light. Sharply struck devices are a bit more satiny in texture, which feature provides a modestly cameo "look" to the finish. Free of outwardly noticeable handling marks. A scarce variety with fewer than a dozen specimens believed extant (per the website uspatterns.com).
