- Tompkins Die Stage 1/1, Rea et al. Die State a. Lustrous, frosty surfaces also show an uncommonly strong strike for the die pairing. While the centers are a tad soft, as expected, there is some emerging definition in those areas, and the balance of the features are sharp. Generally light pearl gray in color, the surfaces exhibit subtle champagne-pink iridescence at the borders. A touch of glossiness to the texture is noted for accuracy, but there are no sizeable marks, and the in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth. This coin is not listed in the 2010 Rea-Peterson-Karoleff-Kovach census, but its PCGS-certified grade of AU-58 qualifies it for a CC#7 (tied) ranking therein.
