Lot Description
1880 Liberty Seated Dime. Proof-64 (NGC). Lustrous steel-gray devices and matching fields exhibit traces of neon-blue and gold iridescence. Large triangular die chip on upright of M in DIME.<br /> &nbsp; &nbsp; Proof mintage: 1,355 pieces. This is the second date in the low-mintage run of dimes of the era, making proofs all the more desirable. However, in this era the low mintages were realized by numismatists, and some small promotion of circulation strikes was done by E.L. Mason, Jr. of Philadelphia and Charles Steigerwalt of nearby Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
