- Blushes of iridescent orange-apricot patina enhance otherwise golden-wheat surfaces. Minimally worn and lightly marked from limited commercial use, yet boldly defined in most areas with plenty of satin to softly frosted luster remaining. A well-circulated issue, typical for a San Francisco Mint Indian eagle, most of the 208,000 coins produced for the 1914-S ended up in government melting pots in the late 1930s. Among the survivors of actual commercial use, few are as technically sound and aesthetically appealing as the James A. Stack, Sr. specimen in Choice AU. Most collectors from Mr. Stack's era had to settle for a VF or, at best, EF to represent this conditionally challenged issue.
