Lot Description

Breen Die State III. Dark charcoal-olive patina to both sides with lighter copper-rose engaging the high points of Liberty's portrait, the wreath, and a few of the letters. While there are no handling marks of consequence, the surfaces are finely granular overall with considerable old, crusty verdigris engaging the peripheral lettering on both sides, as well as the date digits at lower obverse. The overall design is bold and fully appreciable. The Condition Census for this challenging Sheldon number tops out at EAC VF20. The Widmer Family specimen is an EAC VG-Fine, which qualifies it for a ranking of CC#6 per the 2000 Bland census.
