- Lot Description
- Undeniably original surfaces are dressed in warm, even, mauve-gray reverse toning; the obverse combines brilliance with crescents of peripheral antique gold, cobalt blue and reddish-apricot iridescence. Some semblance of a cameo finish is noted for the obverse, while the reverse reveals vivid underlying cobalt blue when viewed with direct lighting. An exceptionally well preserved, Condition Census survivor from a Proof mintage of 700 coins.<p>Struck from a late, repolished state of the Fortin-101 obverse die, repunching to the digits 1 and 5 in the date is no longer discernible, although several die defect lumps can still be seen on Liberty's portrait. As well, doubling to the upper left of the letter O in ONE remains plainly evident on the reverse.
