1787 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 2-A, W-6040. URS-11. Horned Eagle. VF-30 (PCGS). This popular and relatively obtainable <em>Guide Book </em>variety of the 1787 Massachusetts cent is readily identifiable by the presence of a prominent reverse die break (as made) at the top of the eagle's head. Here represented by a glossy copper brown piece, both sides are well centered in strike with plenty of bold to sharp definition. A few scattered marks are noted, including a shallow graze before the eagle's beak.
