Lot Description
1869-S Seated Liberty Half Dollar. WB-101. MS-64 (PCGS). A scarcer S-mint Seated Half in all grades, the 1869-S circulated widely despite having a limited mintage of 656,000 pieces. Because of this circulation most survivors of the issue are well worn, with Fine and VF being perhaps the average grades. High-grade circs are very scarce, while in Mint State the 1869-S is nothing short of rare.
Sharply struck with richly original toning, this low-pop condition rarity belongs in another advanced collection of Seated Liberty coinage. On the obverse we note mottled olive-copper peripheral highlights to otherwise lavender-gray patina. The reverse is both lighter and more evenly toned in a silver-apricot hue. Outwardly distracting abrasions are not seen.
