Lot 361 1853 N-16 R1+ PCGS graded MS65+ Brown, CAC Approved.Lustrous medium bluish steel brown with generous traces of mint red showing, particularly on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth and the strike is very sharp. The only marks are a speck of carbon hidden against the inner curl, another nestled between two points on the left side of star 5, and a tiny vertical tick under the chin. VEDS (very early die state), die state a, with fine die clashmarks at the throat and at the left top of the O in ONE. The fine die lines at the E in ONE are crisp. A beautiful cent. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#1 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 66.
