Lot Description

Frosty mint luster over smooth, pleasing surfaces and rich orange-golden color. The strike is full which is unusual for this conditionally rare date which normally is quite weak. Most examples are Choice About Uncirculated or lower when offered, so when a coin of this grade comes up, it is truly a momentous event. This is the only affordable quarter eagle for this year since the 1875 Philadelphia coin had only 400 coins minted and is rarely ever offered for sale. The San Francisco Mint only struck 11,600 quarter eagles this year.
