1870 Indian Cent. FS-303, Snow-17. Shallow N. Pick Axe, Doubled Die Obverse, Doubled Die Reverse. MS-64 RB (PCGS). An attractive and lustrous near-Gem with a blend of colorful patina that becomes richer at the border. Major die damage in the area of the designer's initial L on the obverse gives this variety its name. This obverse die is paired with at least five different reverse dies across as many varieties including Snow-7, 17, 18, 27 and 41. Snow-17 exhibits a Bold N over a Shallow N and lacks the die line at the second olive leaf that is diagnostic to Snow-27. PCGS Population: 4; 2 finer. PCGS# 569247.
