Lot Description
From an original mintage of less than 750 thousand pieces, this borderline GEM Mint State 93-S ranks among the top dozen examples graded by PCGS. Offering an old time collection look with brilliant satiny lustrous surfaces that have a blush of dappled toning that yield to an untoned silver center, indicative of storage in an old album. Indeed, all we see that keeps this coin from grading MS65 is a small slide mark. This lovely, original album toned coin will excite anyone working on a high ranking set, precious few are graded this high or better. PCGS 23, NGC 10, CAC 5. There are two coins graded MS64+ and just 9 coins graded higher. Neither MS64+ graded by PCGS has ever sold in auction, and no CAC approved MS64 or MS65 has sold in auction since 2016. The MS64 CAC sold in April 2016 for $6,463 and the MS65 CAC sold in the 2016 ANA auction for $15,275. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $8,500 and this coin could hit that level or more when the hammer falls. This is a great coin for any Barber half dollar set on the Registry, and we anticipate very strong bidding to get it! Cert. Number 82970790 PCGS # 6467.00
