1 graded AU-55+, 18 higher at PCGS. Any half-eagle struck in Carson City prior to 1890 is rare in AU or better grades, as these apparently tended to circulate right away after entering the channels of commerce. But despite nearly five points of wear, this emphatically choice example displays even fewer abrasions than can be seen for many that grade fully mint-state. The surface are smooth and charmingly tinted in antique golden hue, with the reverse featuring a very fair amount of luster permeating the fields.
