- 1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Judd-939, Pollock-1052. Rarity-5. Proof-62 Cameo (PCGS). Standard silver design with a right-facing bust of Liberty on the obverse. Liberty is wearing a soft cap ornamented with two stars, and a ribbon crosses her shoulder with the word LIBERTY inscribed in incuse letters. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed on a scroll below. The tip of the cap is under the center of the second letter S in STATES. On the reverse, a wreath of cotton and corn partially encloses the denomination 50 CENTS and the date 1870. The word STANDARD is above. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br /> A mostly untoned example with a sharp strike and good field-to-device contrast.
