- Tompkins Die Stage 7/1, Rea et al. Die State c. Tompkins Plate Coin. A second offering for this fascinating terminal obverse die state of the 1819 Browning-4 attribution, and this is the coin that our consignor chose to illustrate the cud breaks in the date area in his 2008 reference on early U.S. Mint quarters. It is a boldly defined Choice VF with light silver gray motifs and deeper, somewhat mottled pewter, olive and russet patina in the fields. No marks immediately assail the eye, and there are certainly none that we deem significant at the assigned grade level.
Steve M. Tompkins Commentary: A second, yet unimpaired example of this striking and dramatic LDS. The die cracks through the date are just so neat. Can you tell I really enjoy Bust quarters?
