Lot Description

1867 Liberty Seated Quarter. AU-58 (NGC). A rare date with a mintage of a mere 20,000 pieces for circulation, most of which were lost or heavily circulated soon after release. Toned with elegant golden-gray with gunmetal accents particularly on the reverse. The strike is sharp, and the surfaces show scattered light marks when closely examined. As the Civil War unfolded, virtually all gold, silver and copper coins disappeared into hoards and slowly emerged from hiding many years later. PCGS# 5470.
