- Noyes Die State B/B. This is a splendid example of the variety, hard and frosty with approximately 20% of the original rose-orange mint color remaining. Both sides also host original toning in iridescent lilac-brown. Free of detracting carbon, minor marks are noted in the field areas before Liberty's profile and below the letters TA in STATES, but these are easily overlooked during in-hand viewing, and the eye appeal remains strong. Well struck despite typical softness to a few of the stars on the obverse, most design elements are boldly to sharply rendered. Del Bland, Bill Noyes and Bob Grellman all assign this coin an EAC grade of MS63, the first-listed also ranking it CC#2 for these dies, while the second says CC#4. An extensive and impressive numismatic provenance further enhances the desirability of this important 1834 Newcomb-2 Matron Head cent.
