- 152.8 grains. A very pretty example of this iconic variety, showing good remaining frost and luster across even light brown surfaces. Well struck and fully detailed on both sides, struck from an early (close to DS1) unswelled state of this often distorted obverse. The obverse is framed with denticles from 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock and the entire date is present, though a tiny rim nick is noted at the base of the 6. A single tiny nick is visible just above the plowhandles, and a trivial abrasion is noted on the rim above EA at 3 o'clock. The reverse is especially bold, attractive, and lustrous, showing just a tiny rim nick at 7 o'clock and a few minor rim abrasion at right.<p>This die marriage was especially prolific, making this variety a popular one for type collectors and those who seek just one nice New Jersey copper. The last example we sold in this grade was the somewhat later die state Syd Martin coin, which brought $5,760 in August 2022.
