- Lot Description
- Both sides display light golden-apricot color on fully lustrous, frosty surfaces. Minor striking weakness is noted at the top of the reverse, this being typical and hardly detracting. These gold dollars were offered to the public at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, an event also popularly referred to as the Saint Louis World's Fair. Although the coins are dated 1903, the Exposition didn't actually open until April 1904. The famous numismatist and one-time ANA president, Farran Zerbe, operated the numismatic concession on the fair grounds where the gold dollars were sold.
