Lot Description

1865-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-60 (PCGS). Delightful rose-orange surfaces are boldly struck throughout with billowy, frosty mint luster. Uncommonly abrasion free for the assigned grade and worthy of a premium bid. The 1865-S was once regarded as a major rarity in Mint State, but the recovery of more than 600 Uncirculated examples from the wreck of the S.S. Brother Jonathanin 1999 greatly changed the situation; many collectors who would have been compelled to settle for a VF or EF example a generation ago can now acquire a nice Mint State specimen instead.
