Lot Description
THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION PART II RESPLENDENT mirrors are devoid of distractions and accent precise frosty motifs. Under a strong loupe, a couple of very faint scratches are seen on Liberty’s belly and neck. In 1873, coins struck in Philadelphia came without arrows in either a “closed” or “open” 3 format. The difference being how close the knobs of the 3 are together. The chief coiner filed a complaint with the Director of the Engraving Department when he realized how easily the closed-3 dates could be mistaken for the numeral 8, especially on the smaller denomination series. PCGS 18, NGC 21. One has to go back to September 2017 to find a non-CAC price realized for this issue which was $1,170. PCGS Price Guide is $1,900. Cert. Number 3101646-006 PCGS # 5572.00
