Lot Description

Dominant sandy-gold patina is a bit lighter in the center of the reverse, where accuracy compels us to mention evidence of an old, light cleaning that has since retoned quite nicely. The peripheries show warmer steely-gray and russet highlights. The strike is well centered and evenly executed with plenty of sharp detail remaining throughout the design. BB-167 is only a median rarity among 1799 silver dollar die parings in an absolute sense, but at the assigned grade level the present example is rare and qualifies as Condition Census per the listing in the 2013 edition of the Bowers early dollar reference.
