1853 United States Assay Office of Gold $20 Gold. K-18. Rarity-2. AU-50 (NGC). 1861 Gold Dollar. Proof. Edge Damage. (NGC). Especially attractive orange-gold toning through the lettering and devices with some luster pearing out from these areas. The surfaces have moderate circulation marks common to these large gold coins. Although a prolific mintage at the time of issue, the vast majority of these were melted and converted into regular San Francisco gold coinage during the decade that followed their striking. A handsome example of this popular and historic coin.
