Lot Description
1867 Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 1-A. AU-58 (PCGS). Iridescent steel-olive drifts over a base of silver-gray patina. At direct viewing angles the peripheries light up with reddish-gold and powder blue, the centers with softer champagne-pink. Sharply struck and near-fully lustrous, just a touch of friction and some wispy hairlines separate this coin from the Mint State category. These are scarce, as are all Reconstruction era Liberty Seated quarters from the Philadelphia Mint. Only 20,000 circulation strikes were produced in 1867, and attrition was high due to export and melting. Provenance: From the Steven Jay Ball Collection. PCGS# 5470. NGC ID: 23UD.
