- Desirable proof striking of this first-year variety. Just 500 proofs reported struck of all 1878 varieties, making this one of the rarest of them all. The present example retains an amazing amount of cameo effect, and mirrors so deep and dynamic, they might just hypnotize the one holding it. The reverse displays a pale patina of iridescent gold that comes in on the peripherals of the obverse framing otherwise brilliant surfaces. Fully struck as expected the eye appeal is off the charts!
