Lot Description

Breen Die State III. With olive-brown highlights to dominant crimson-copper patina. There is a shallow obverse rim bruise below the digit 2 in the date, reverse with a few digs around the final letter S in STATES and a short scrape at the leaf below the left foot of the letter N in UNITED. Other marks, including several of moderate size, are singularly inconspicuous and generally in keeping with the NGC-assigned grade. Plenty of bold detail and good gloss enhance both the appearance and desirability of this Sheldon-240 cent. Axial misalignment is typical of this late die state and explains the softness to the end of Liberty's bust on the obverse and the word OF on the reverse.
